Happy 4th of July!
Celebratin' the Summer Solstice!
Today is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Here in New Orleans (and much of the planet in this particular hemisphere), The City that Sobriety Forgot, it's gonna be hot! It is also National Ice Cream Soda Day. Here is a cold one that may remind you of a Summer treat from your past…
Dreamsicle
Here is a list of the secret ingredients, go ahead and prep like an ice cream soda or a milkshake
~ Equal parts Crème de Noyaux (almond) & Orange Juice; don’t skimp.
~ Equal parts Orange Sherbert and Vanilla Ice Cream
~ Whole Milk
Enjoy!
Absolutely Cajun!
Welcome Libation Lovers to the first of my regular series of reports from The City That Sobriety Forgot. Here we will talk about all things from the world of intoxicology that are floating around in my mind and answer any and all questions you can find in yours.
According to Drinksmixer.com, there are at least 45 different flavored vodkas from 30 different brands. Instead of debating the merits – or lack thereof – of this plethora of potent potables (perhaps a topic for a future installment of Gratis Spirits), allow me to share my recipe that appeared in Absolut’s Cocktail Book – Limited Edition. I use 2 flavored vodkas plus a delicious New Orleans’ produced flavored rum. This is Louisiana drink for sure, plenty strong with a hint of spicy. Enjoy!
ABSOLUTELY CAJUN
1 - Absolut Vanilla
½ - Absolut Peppar
1 ½ - Old New Orleans Cajun Spice Rum
½ - Chambord
½ - Fresh Lemon Juice
Shake with ice & strain into chilled cocktail glass
Garnish – Orange Twist, preferably a Plaquemines Parish satsuma.
Drink and be merry,
