Wine Tasting Fun!

Vino!
It's the weekly wine tasting over at Pearl Wine Company (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Critically acclaimed Owner and Winemaker, Adam Lee, of Siduri Vineyards will be there tasting four of his outstanding Pinot Noirs. And come hungry - Every Friday, Rolls n' Bowls, a new Vietnamese Restaurant in town, will join us during tasting and live music. They'll serve a variety of selections from their menu, including, spring rolls, salad & pork sliders. All around $5!

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Antonio Molesini will be pouring 4 great wines from his native Italy this week accompanied by some delicious tapas by Chef Walter!

If you're Uptown head on over to Martin's Wine Cellar (3500 Magazine)....They'll be serving up some lovely wines from 4:30 to 6:30 pm!

Fun at the Museum!

1984 World's Fair
It's 80s night at NOMA! Listen to 80s tunes spun by DJ Bunny and DJ Lingerie or participate in The New Movement's 80s-themed comedy tour as the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park continue to celebrate "Inventing the Modern World" and the 1984 World's Fair. You can also pop in Café NOMA for "Art You Can Eat," where Chef Chris Montero and Poppy Tooker, host of WWNO 89.9-FM's Louisiana Eats will lead a demonstration on culinary arts from Spain. (This event is included with museum admission.) In honor of Inventing the Modern World: Decorative Arts from the World's Fairs, 1851-1939, all "Art You Can Eat" demonstrations in June will focus on cuisine from a different area of the globe.

*5:30-8:30 p.m.: DJ Lingerie and DJ Bunny

Celebrate tonight! It's the OffBeat Magazine July 2013 Issue Release Party featuring The Brass-A-Holics!! Come on out to the soon-to-be-open uptown music club and art space, GASA GASA (4920 Freret St.) from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The free party will feature live music from New Orleans' own Go-Go-Brass-Funk band, the Brass-A-Holics, who cover this year's July issue of OffBeat Magazine. In addition to snagging a free copy of the new OffBeat, guests will enjoy free food from GASA GASA's Freret Street neighbor, Wayfare Handcrafted Food & Spirits and Sammy's Deli, as well as complimentary cocktail tastings from Crown Royal and Glazers Liquor.

French Vino!

The French American Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 14th Annual Summer Wine Festival, "Summer in Provence," from 7 until 10 p.m. Saturday, at The Shops at Canal Place. Enjoy French food and French wines as well as live entertainment and an auction. Tickets are $55 in advance and $65 the night of the event. For more info click here.

It's a great night to hang out at City Park and enjoy the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans and Opera Creole for the Twilight Garden Concert Series! Symphony Chorus of New Orleans and Opera Creole mark the tenth anniversary of Moses Hogan’s passing with a celebration of his life and music. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children.

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden has Andrew Duhon.  Andrew Duhon's blues music and performances reflect his personal perspective in a very real way, and his voice leaves no gaps in the experience as he sings with a conviction all too befitting of his raw, personal writings.

The Wednesdays on the Point concert series continues in Algiers and runs through July 17th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and of course, admission is FREE...Tonight head to the Algiers Ferry Dock (200 Morgan St.) and enjoy some funk and blues with The New Orleans Suspects plus The Mumbles - remember you can take the ferry over for free - it's a beautiful ride across the river!  Click the above link for complete concert series info!

A Friday Concert!

Concerts in the Courtyard
It's the final Concerts in the Courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection for the Spring Season so come out and experience a concert in the courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection in the heart of the French Quarter - 533 Royal Street. The show is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with cellist and vocalist Helen Gillet. Sponsored by Associated Office Systems, the concert series features live music performed in a beautiful French Quarter courtyard. Admission includes three Praline Liqueur cocktails, provided by Sazerac! Admission is $10 at the door, free for THNOC members. Memberships begin at $35 per year. Guests must be 21 or older to enter.

Head on down to the Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade) as Sasha Masakowski and Cindy Scott performers lead a free Jazz showcase from 2:00 to 3:30 p .m.  If you haven't checked out the beautiful and cool theater - you really need to get yourself down there!

While your in the Quarter check out a double header of music at the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) - It's a performance by Mia Borders at 2:00 pm and followed by Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes at 3:00 p.m.  Be sure to check out their amazing music collection and go home with a CD or classic album!

BEER!

Celebrate all things BEER at the WYES International Beer Tasting - Saturday night at Mardi Gras World (1380 Port of New Orleans) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. - There will be over 275 beers to sample at the state's oldest beer tasting event. Thursday Fun with Music in the Garden,"O" with Jimbo Mathus, Abita Beer and Toasts & Tiki Tails!

It's a great night to hang out at City Park and enjoy David Torkanowsky for the Twilight Garden Concert Series! David is recognized as one of the finest contemporary jazz pianists in New Orleans, and over the years has performed with most of the great New Orleans musicians. Things just seem to sizzle when David is playing his piano. He is sure to have some new songs, so grab your mint julep and get ready for an enjoyable evening. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children.

Tonight the Ogden has Jimbo Mathus.  Entertainer, singer, instrumentalist, songwriter, and tankerman, Jimbo Mathus was born in Oxford, Mississippi. His early life was filled with music, as his father and relatives were skilled instrumentalists and singers. He began joining the family musical circle at an early age and by age 8 was proficient at mandolin. By 15, Jimbo had been taught the rudiments of guitar, piano and harmony singing. The family's repertoire consisted of hundreds of folk, bluegrass, country blues and pre-recorded songs passed down through the Mathus and Byrd families. You may also know him from his band "Squirrel Nut Zippers" - Good stuff!

Hooray for the Weekend with Vino, Museum Fun, Pat O's, a Healthy Movie, and a Southern Fried Zoo!

Vino Fun!

It's the weekly wine tasting over at Pearl Wine Company (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come out and sample some fantastic wines and take some home too!  (They're also having a big wine garage sale on Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m. - great prices for delicious vinos - go ahead and stock up!)

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle!

And there's more wine on the Bayou! It's Vino on the Bayou at The Pitot House (1440 Moss St.) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Come enjoy the June Vino on the Bayou tasting with wine courtesy of Pearl Wine Co., musical entertainment from John Rankin,  Local writer Earl W. Hampton Jr. will be signing copies of his book "The Streetcar Guide to New Orleans". Admission is $5 for Landmarks members and $10 general admission.

Friday Night at the Museum!

Check out Friday Nights at NOMA this evening over at the New Orleans Museum of Art beginning at 5:00 pm and celebrate the weekend!  The event is FREE with museum admissions. This Friday, Judith H. Bonner, Senior Curator/Curator of Art at the Historic New Orleans Collection will give a lecture entitled, "The 1884 World's Fair, William Woodward, and Women's Education."  $10 Adults, $8 seniors, students, active military, $6 children ages 17 to 7, children 6 and under are free.  Check out all the fun events this evening!

Join The New Orleans Eat Local Challenge for a FREE on-location Green Screen event. Together with The Green Project and The Charitable Film Network, we will be showing the film "Ingredients". The screening will be held on the outdoor patio at Zeitgeist (1618 Oretha Castle Haley) with local food and beverage available for purchase. Come one, come all! Doors open at 7:00 pm and the screening starts once the sun goes down.

Weekend Fun!

It's Southern Fried Swamp Fest at the Audubon Zoo!! Traditional and non-traditional fried food will be featured, along with Cajun music in the Swamp Exhibit, lots more music on the Capital One stage, and animal presentations and crafters.  Also, DADS will enjoy FREE admission all day on Sunday in celebration of Father's Day! To expedite your entry, purchase and print tickets at home. Supper (and lunch) is going to the dogs (and cats) tonight for Pause 4 Dinner! Restaurants all around town have pledged to donate 20 percent of their proceeds from dinner sales to the Louisiana SPCA. Wine Tasting and Fresh Food!

Go hang out at City Park this evening and enjoy music from singer/songwriter, Natalie Mae & Her Unturned Tricks for the Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series! Natalie Mae's repertoire includes an entertaining mix of original tunes inspired by the likes of Hank Williams, Bob Wills, and Dinah Washington. - you don't want to miss her performance! Gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children (it was $3 last year :)

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden has Colin Lake - part songwriter, part blues singer, part slide guitar phenomenon, Colin Lake is paving a musical road all his own.
*Be sure to head on over to the bar for this month's signature drink - Summer Sunrise A refreshing blend of Tequila, Licor 43, lime juice, simple syrup and a splash of orange juice, garnished with a sliced orange. And remember with your Ogden membership all of these excellent concerts are FREE!!!

Jazz in the Park Free Concert Series wraps up this evening in Armstrong Park! PUfAP is proud to present the third season of Jazz in the Park, inside of the historic Louis Armstrong Park. The events are FREE, this fun event features a Marketplace that provides an opportunity to purchase fresh food, produce and crafts from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. This evening's big musical finale is gonna be all kinds of fun when Mike "Soulman" Baptiste takes the stage at 5:00 pm and Kermit Ruffins closes out the festivities at 6:30 pm!

Head on over to Lakeview and the Harrison Avenue Marketplace presented by Beacon of Hope tonight from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the parking lot of Lakeview Grocery at 801 Harrison Avenue.  You'll enjoy music by Center Stage and there will be 75 arts, crafts and food vendors!  Grace Evangelical Church will be there with great activities for the little ones. You can enjoy the famous char-grilled oysters from Drago's or Baked Alaska from Antoine's. Stop by the Beacon Beverage booth to enjoy a refreshing libation from an array of thirst quenchers.
