Happy Jazz Fest Monday - w/Lots Mo' Music!

Happy Monday Everybody - Jazz Fest Fever keeps rollin' along!

Continue your Jazz Fest week at The Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) as the Jazz Fest concerts continue with this amazing line-up today!!

Join Tipitina's (501 Napoleon) tonight at 6:00pm for the Instruments A Comin' (IAC) benefit concert and silent auction, featuring the best music, food and art that New Orleans has to offer. The outside entertainment, beginning at 6:00 pm, is open to the public and includes marching bands from Miller-McCoy Academy, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Band of Excellence and others. The outside program will culminate in a Battle of the Bands with two of New Orleans' amazing high school marching bands, the St. Augustine Marching 100 and O. Perry Walker High School Marching Band. The music will take over the streets! If you are in town for Jazz Fest, you must come by Tchoupitoulas and Napoleon Avenue! After the Wall and Walk of Fame inductions the music begins inside the club with Galactic, Big Sam's Funky Nation, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, the Honey Island Swamp Band and many more will perform, and there will be an auction during the performances. Tickets range from $40 to $200.

And don't forget Mid-City's best kept secret the South Pierce Courtyard Concert - Andrew Duhon Music (240 S Pierce) Round 3 - from 6:00 to 9:00 pm!!

LPO in Central City tonight! The concert will feature traditional classic and modern favorites that will please any and all generations of listeners. Some selections to include: Overture to Light Cavalry, Suite from Carmen, Strike Up the Band, Muppet Medley, Traditional New Orleans Medley, Irving Berlin - A Symphonic Portrait, and Stars and Stripes Forever. Kick off your Jazz Fest Celebration in Central City! This program takes place at Mahalia Jackson Early Childhood Center-2405 Jackson Avenue. Join us at 5:30PM to see the New Hope Baptist Dance Ministry, an LPO concert at 6PM, and a performance by the Creole Wild West Mardi Gras Indians at 7:15. This program is funded through ArtPlace.

Kick off Jazz Fest in style! Threadhead Records invites you to attend the 3rd Annual Threadhead Thursday at City Park tonight from 6 pm – 11 pm at the Robert B Haskel Outdoor Garden Stage in the New Orleans Botanical Garden at City Park. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and join us and some of our multi-talented THR artists for a magical night under the stars including Glen David Andrews, Paul Sanchez and the Rolling Road Show, The Honeypots, and The Creole String Beans!! Free and open to the public. Food and drink available for purchase.

Armstrong Park Thursdays continues tonight with David Batiste & Family plus Kermit Ruffins. The concerts will run from 5 to 7 p.m. and come hungry - there will be food from Café Treme, Wine and Bistro, Jacques-Imo's Café, and more...Fun!!

A Tuesday with Veggies, Jazz and Lots of Music!

Good morning everybody and happy Tuesday!!

Farmer's Market!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and Greg and Mary Sonnier of The Uptowner is serving up lunch under the Green Plate Special Tent. Past weekes have served up such yummy dishes as vegetarian black bean soup, succotash, chicken fajita salad, jalapeno cornbread and Mary's carrot cake cupcakes - can't wait to see what's in store for this week!

Good Music Tonight!

Jazz @ the Sandbar ( The Cove, Founders Road, UNO Lakefront Campus) continues as Banu Gibson joins the UNO Hot Club (directed by Matt Bell) and the Traditional Jazz Ensemble (directed by Matt Perrine) in the penultimate concert. The performance begins at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for the general public and free to the UNO community.

And there's a great evening on the Avenue....Cause it's another lovely southern night for porch sitting and music over at the The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.)...Have a fancy cocktail and listen to the guitar stylings of John Rankin!

Head on over to Mid-City and to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal)!  They've got the Sweet Olive String Band at 5:00 pm, and be sure to stay on for Tommy Malone on guitar and Bill Malchow on piano at 8:00 pm (Tickets $8) - come hungry for delicious pizza, pasta, salads and more!!

End your night over at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street...with  the Grammy Award winning REBIRTH Brass Band they come on around 10:30ish - there's a cover, but you'll be glad you paid and stayed up late!!

Happy Monday - and what a beautiful Monday it is!

Monday Night Music

Tonight is the CD-release party for Debbie Davis from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen Street)....Mark your calendars and join us for a Jazz Fest pre-party to celebrate the release of Debbie's first and long awaited solo record. Alex McMurray, Tom McDermott and Matt Perrine will be joining is and some special guests to perform some songs from the record and whatever else strikes them as a good idea. Copies of the CD will be available for one night only for the reduced price of $10 with no limit on how many you can buy. Stock up before the Fest and do some early Christmas shopping because they'll never be this cheap again!!!

BMC (1331 Decatur) has a great early show at 5:00 pm with Lil Red and Big Bad...then stay on for the next show at 9:30 with Smoky Greenwell's Blues Jam!!

Friday Fun w/Wine, Music and a Concert in the Courtyard!!

Thursday w/the Grand Opening of Jim's and Concerts Everywhere!!

Good Morning Everybody - it's going to be a beautiful Thursday and there's so much to do!

Come celebrate the GRAND OPENING of JIMS sandwich place (3000 Royal) in the Bywater with yummy food and great music from 4:00 to 7:00 pm today! Sample their favorite sandwiches, and they'll be taking photos for the restaurant too! So where your favorite outfit and get your picture on the wall while groovin' to the sounds of Washboard Chaz and St. Louis Slim - Don't miss it!

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle (3700 Orleans) about 5:00 pm in Mid-City. Come sample some delicious vinos and kick off your early weekend right! You can also stop at Clever (right next door - don't even have to walk outside) for their happy hour specials after attending the free wine tasting!  And be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market (right outside the door) and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more!!

Tuesday w/Veggies, Firewords and Lots of Music!

Good morning everybody and happy Tuesday!!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and Greg and Mary Sonnier of The Uptowner is serving up lunch under the Green Plate Special Tent. This week they'll have dishes like spiced black bean soup, gumbo z'herbes, fajita chicken salad, smoked pulled pork sandwiches and sweets....yummy!!

Celebrate Navy Week with a very special Cocktail Party - tonight from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at The Westin New Orleans Canal Place Hotel (11th floor-100 Iberville Street). Ships from all over the world will be arriving on the 17th and docking along the East Bank of the Mississippi River. The festivities will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display over the river around 8:30pm. It's an evening of live jazz, specialty cocktails available for $8 each as well as full bar options, complimentary hors doeuvres and a phenomenal view of nautical ships and glistening fireworks!

End your night over at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street...with  the Grammy Award winning REBIRTH Brass Band they come on around 10:30ish - there's a cover, but you'll be glad you paid and stayed up late!!

Happy Wednesday w/a Concert, a Market, a Booksigning and More!

It's a beautiful Wednesday - celebrate the day with lots of good stuff going on 'round town!

Come on down to Lafayette Square for another stellar line-up for this year's Wednesday at the Square concert series....there will be crafts, food and libations....Dirty Brass-A-Holics "Gogo Brass Funk" Band plus Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk get things movin' this evening at 5:00 pm - and check out the entire line-up so you can make your plans.

Head on over to Lakeview and the Harrison Avenue Marketplace presented by Beacon of Hope tonight from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the parking lot of Lakeview Grocery at 801 Harrison Avenue.  You'll enjoy music by The Louisiana Hellbenders and come shop and support the local artists who can help you find that perfect something. There will be 75 arts, crafts and food vendors along with the Bayou Gaming Truck hosted by St. Paul's. You can enjoy the famous char-grilled oysters from Drago's or Baked Alaska from Antoine's. Happy Monday w/some French Brass & Jon Cleary at Chickie and More!

Happy Monday - Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday!

Monday Night Music

If you're Uptown - Enjoy some cocktail porch sippin' over at the Columns Hotel (3811 St. Charles)....Tonight David Doucet of Beausoleil fame performs at 8:00 pm tonight!

Head on down to Mid-City and to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) come by after work for OLALA - a brass band from France! That will start at 6 with no cover. Then Monday resident Jon Cleary, is playing solo piano at 8:00 pm (with only an $8 cover)!  Don't forget to come hungry for some delicious pizza and other good stuff from the kitchen!!

It's the annual Good Friday Celebration at Magnolia Food Cooperative and Market (2132 Simon Bolivar) today at 5:00 pm...Join the community renewal and gospel concert featuring Jo "Cool" Davis, Cordell Chambliss and many others and it's FREE!

Wine!

Hooray for wine!  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come out and sample some fantastic wines!

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle!

After the wine....There's good times at the New Orleans Museum of Art this evening with Where Y'Art from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Happy Thursday w/Paul Sanchez & Friends and Lots of Music 'Round Town!

Good Morning Everybody - it's going to be a beautiful Thursday!

Thursday Events

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle (3700 Orleans) about 5:00 pm in Mid-City. Come sample some delicious vinos and kick off your early weekend right! You can also stop at Clever (right next door - don't even have to walk outside) for their happy hour specials after attending the free wine tasting!  And be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market (right outside the door) and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more!! 

Go hang out at City Park this evening and enjoy Paul Sanchez for the Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series!  Paul will be joined by an ensemble of great musicians, including Alex McMurray, Mary Lasseigne, Sonia Tetlow, Debbie Davis, Arsene DeLay and Craig Klein.....Together they are sure to deliver an evening of wonderful music!!  The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children (it was $3 last year :)

Armstrong Park Thursdays continues tonight with Mike Baptiste and Juice and Da Krewe.  Upcoming performances include, Donald Harrison and Troy Sawyer, James Andrews and the Craig School Brass Band, and Kermit Ruffins. The concerts will run from 5 to 7 p.m. and come hungry - there will be food from Café Treme, Wine and Bistro, Jacques-Imo's Café, and more...Fun!!

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden presents Tao Seeger - Music is in his blood: Fusing the folk styles of his family heritage with contemporary rock-n-roll, Tao Seeger's music breaks all barriers of traditional folk bringing a unique and distinctive sound to the table!  And be sure to head on over to the bar - there's going to be a surprise cocktail concoction from guest bartender - Raleigh Cooper!

A Wet Wednesday w/a Promise of Sunshine & Lots of Music!

It's a very rainy start to this Wednesday, but there's promise of a little sunshine this afternoon!

The Tulane University Marching Band will put on a free concert tonight  at 7:00 p.m. on campus over at Dixon Hall (Newcomb Place and Zimple Street)....I hear them practicing from my house many afternoons and they sound really good!!

If you're looking for some art, delicious food and free beer - then head on over to Crescent City Brewhouse (527 Decatur) for the opening art exhibit of Louisiana visual artist Tami Curtis Ellis today from 5:00 to 7:00 pm!
