Gratis NOLA Weekend Fun w/Art, Tet Fest, Beer, Pussyfooters & More!

Hooray for the weekend!!

There may not be any football going on this weekend, but there's lots of good stuff going on!

Saturday Fun and Music!

Come to the Palmer Park Arts Market between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and celebrate the Carnival season with over 100 of your favorite visual artists, tasty food and drink, live music, and kid's activities in beautiful Palmer Park on the corner of S. Carrollton and Claiborne. This is the last Market before Mardi Gras, so don't miss out on your chance to get one-of-a-kind Carnival essentials this weekend!  They'll have crafts galore at the Kid's Tent, located near the newly renovated playground space. The fun starts at 10:30 with a performance for kids of all ages by the story teller Donald Lewis. Live Music begins at 1:00 with Sombras Brilhantes, followed by Estelle Campagne at 2:30...See you at the Market!

Celebrate the Vietnamese New Year all weekend long at the Tet Festival in New Orleans East at Mary Queen of Vietnam Church (5069 Willowbrook Dr.).  The Vietnamese New Year's celebration marks the Year of the Dragon with food, entertainment and cultural activities.  This is a truly fun and delicious event with so many yummy foods to try...Not only will there be Vietnamese delicacies this year, but there's also going to be samplings of Latin food!!  The fest runs Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.  For more info call 254-5660.

Carnival season is upon us and Cree McCree's Annual Mardi Gras House Sale is the costume motherlode (3728 Laurel St.)! Come by between noon and 5:00 pm and you'll find a wealth of vintage & recycled costumes, plus a fabulous array of 2012 Cree-ations hot off the glue gun. The $5 rack is bursting with OMG scores, and DIYers can dig in my famous $1 boxes for mix-and-match costume makings. Come transform yourself!

Would you like to try some interesting beers this Saturday?  Then head on over to Stein's Market and Deli (2207 Magazine) from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm for its Fourth Annual Beer Day!!  Experts will be at the Deli to answer any beer questions you might have and several styles of beer will be available for tasting.  There's also gonna be a brewing demonstration by NOLA Brewing's own vice-president - Derek Lintern on the back patio!  Remember all bottles you purchase will be 10% - Cheers!!!  For more info call 527-0771.

Head on over to the Quarters and the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) for the free in-store concerts.  Today they've got E. Company at 2:00 pm, Ryan Foret and Foret Traditionat 3:00 pm and to top it off The Soul Rebels at 4:00 pm.  Remember to pick up your drink tickets for special beer prices down the street, and pick up a CD while you're there too - they have the best music selection in town!

Party with a Purpose! It's time to party down with the Pussy footer's at the Blush Ball from 9:00 to 1:00 am at The Foundry (333 St. Joseph St.)!! This fundraiser benefits the Metro Center for Women and Children (METRO).  This super fun night features music from Big Sam's Funky Nation, DJ Brice Nice, MC Trixie Minx and performances by the Pussyfooters and other special guests!!  Tickets are $30 in advance - buy from your favorite Pussyfooter, online, from Fleurty Girl (3117 Magazine St.) and at Miss Claudia's Vintage Clothing & Costumes (4204 Magazine St.) or $40 tickets at the door. Chicke Wah Wah (2828 Canal) has Mark Mullins this Saturday night at 10:00 pm!!  You know Mark from Bonerama - I'm sure it's going to be one kickin' show!!  There's a cover, but it's definitely worth the dinero!!

Frenchmen Street is kickin' with music!  d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen) has John Boutte' at 7:00 pm and then come on back for the late show with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux at 11:00 pm - they're sure to please (there's a small cover for the Chief - but you don't want to miss the show!)

The Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) has a triple header starting early  with Shaye Cohn at 3:00 pm, Panorama Jazz Band at 6:00 pm and top off the night with Dominick Grillo & The Frenchmen St. All Stars again at 10:00 pm!!

And curb your hunger for food and music over at Three Muses (536 Frenchmen)...Get some  yummy food and listen to the sounds of the Calvin Johnson Quartet at 6:30 pm and stay on for the Frenchmen Street Jug Band at 10:00 pm.

And if you're Uptown over by Lee's Circle stop by The Irish House (1432 St. Charles) about 7:00 pm for one of the best Irish traditions in the world: a Ceili! What’s a Ceili, you ask? It is a big Irish party where people of all ages can come together to play music, dance, drink or sit back and relax with the company of friends and family...while you're there down some Guiness and some delicious shepherd's pie! 

Right down the street head on over to Circle Bar (1032 St. Charles) the place is all new and shiny with the newly completed renovations and catch the Alex McMurray Band 10:00 pm!

Sunday Fun and Music!

More carnival fun and do it up right with a King Cake Kick-Off Party at Trinity Lutheran Church (620 Eliza - in Algiers).  It's going to be an afternoon of fun, food and music, with Benny Grunch and da Bunch and of course king cakes (plus some beer and hot dogs!!)  The fun goes from Noon to 4:00 pm - for more info call 361-7748.

Grab some delicious brunch and delight in the sounds of the Courtyard Kings starting up at 11:00 am over at Cafe' Rani (2917 Magazine)...Nothing like some Bloody Marys and some great music!

After brunch take a "free ride" over the might Mississippi to the Old Point Bar (545 Patterson) in Algiers...they've got the Blues Frenzy at 3:30 pm!

There's an early and late show over at Three Muses (536 Frenchmen) - come early for Harmonouche at 5:30 and stay on for Gal Holiday at 8:00 pm!  Delicious food and great music!!

Funk it up over at the Candlelight Lounge (925 N. Robertson) with Treme Funktet featuring Corey Henry and special guests at 6:00 pm!! (Probably a small cover, but you don't want to miss Corey!)

There's more brass in the Warehouse District over at the Howlin' Wolf - "The Den" (901 S. Peters) with Brass Band Sundays with The Hot 8 Brass Band playing at 9:30 pm! (I'm guessing there's a cover)
