Jazz Fest Day 4 - Bill deTurk's Tips and Picks!!

Happy Jazz Fest Thursday...and it appears the weather gods are going to bless us again today!!
Bill deTurk continues to help you out with your Jazz Fest Fun with his "Tips and  Picks" of the Day!

Jazz Fest Tips – Take time to check out the amazing indigenous art in the Folk Crafts Area.  When you have nothing on your music schedule, go to the Fais Do Do Stage.  When you need to get out of the sun and sit down a minute, hit the Gospel Tent, although not sure how long you will be able to stay in your seat.  And number one tip is to master the “walk by”; face it, there is too much truly fabulous music, so “walk by” and check out an act for 10 minutes or so as you make your way to another mind-blowing destination.  Everyone have a great day and enjoy the world’s greatest music and heritage festival!

Jazz Fest Picks - Let’s call Day 4 “Stayin’ Chilly By Gentilly Stage Day”!  Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue (11:25 Gentilly) – Start the day with an easy on the eyes and easy on the ears experience.  Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes (12:20 – Acura) – Not exactly what one would expect from classically trained musicians.  Shasha Maskowski (12:20 Jazz Tent) – We love young, talented girl singers.  Little Freddie King (12:20 Blues) – Real blues form a real good guy.  Kirk Joseph’s Backyard Groove (12:35 Congo) – Sousaphone lead jazz/funk/soul.  Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys (1:45 – Fais Do Do) – Louisiana Pick of the Day.  New Orleans Bingo! Show (2:15 Gentilly) – And now for something completely different.  Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers (3:10 Fais Do Do) – This guy’s accordion playing is hotter than hell.  Galactic (3:25 Acura) – They paint a picture of the contemporary N.O. music scene with their sound.  Djakout #1 (3:35 Congo) – More great indigenous Haitian sounds.  Amanda Shaw & the Cute Guys (3:40 Gentilly) – Cute, talented charismatic, and would not be surprised to see Cyndi Lauper make an appearance.  James Booker Tribute (4:10 Blues) – Amazing local pianists interpret the inimitable Bayou Maharajah.  Locos por Juana (4:25 Jazz & Heritage) – You probably never heard them, but I bet you like them.  Michelle Shocked (4:35 Fais Do Do) – Hear what the former French Quarter girl is up to these days.  Cyndi Lauper (5:25 Gentilly) – There is a lot more to her than ‘80s pop stardom.  Maceo Parker with Pee Wee Ellis (5:30 Congo) – Non-Louisiana Pick of the Day.

Hope you can sneak out of work today and go enjoy...and if you can't make it out to the Fest you can catch it online at www.WWOZ.org...see you later gator...and P.S. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
